Accessibility

Rugeley Community Church has aimed to make this web site accessible for all users, including people with disabilities. On this page we have listed the features that are intended to assist and why they have been included. If you believe we have overlooked a particular aid that you and others would find especially helpful, then by all means let our webmaster know.

Supported access keys

All publicly accessible pages define the whichever of the following access keys are appropriate in the context:

  • Access key 0: This accessibility statement
  • Access key 1: Home page
  • Access key 2: Skip to main content
  • Access key 3: Table of contents
  • Access key 4: Search box
  • Access key 8: Terms of use/privacy
  • Access key 9: Feedback

These access keys have been added for the convenience of those with screen readers and text-only browsers.

Standards compliance

Where applicable standards can be identified, then these pages have been constructed and validated against those standards in order to aid accessiblity.

Navigation aids

All pages have home links to aid navigation in text-only browsers and screen readers. Additionally, use of access key 3 provides a table of contents providing a direct link to all the public pages on this site.

Links

Wherever possible, the following steps have been taken to make links accessible:

  1. Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target
  2. Whever possible, links are written to make sense out of context. Many browsers (such as JAWS, Home Page Reader, Lynx, and Opera) can extract the list of links on a page and allow the user to browse the list, separately from the page.
  3. Link text is never duplicated; two links with the same link text always point to the same address.
  4. Except for “back” buttons and enlarged image display, there are no “javascript:” pseudo-links. All links can be followed in any browser, even if scripting is turned off.
  5. There are no links (other than image enlargement) that open new windows without warning.

Images

All content images used in the home page and all archives include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.

Visual design

This site and all its archives use cascading style sheets for visual layout. A stylesheet which is appropriate to the capabilities of your browser is served.

If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
